Vintage 1970 Gibson Les Paul Sunburst Deluxe. Talk about a blast from the past and the story behind it is pretty cool. It has only had one owner who bought it in May of 1971 who was a well respected rock guitarist in the tri-state area. I know he got it in this time frame because he actually had the original receipt in the case! I can not included the receipt because he does not want his name out there. I spoke to him at length about the guitar and he filled me in on some questions about this vintage guitar. Right off the bat I was curious about those mini-humbuckers and he told me that everyone was taking the covers off of the normal sized humbuckers then and he wanted to see what it would sound like with his mini hums. He was so happy with the sound he said he never put them back on and could not find the covers after a couple years went by. I just tested it out and if you follow my auctions I just sold a 74 deluxe so I was able to A/B them. This one has just a touch more highs in the mix and over all just a bit more bite. The sound is to die for with really well rounded tone. It has that unmistakable big mahogany pancake body type channeling that big vintage tone. Distorted it really warms up and these minis sound great for the shredder or if you like some nice bar chords it really sings. These vintage LPs are known for that never ending sustain and this guitar is no exception, hit a G chord and it goes on forever. If you try it through a clean setting you hear that Les type clarity with big chimey clean notes especially off the neck pup. Any Jazz, blues, R&B, Rock, Punk, or Metal player would be in love with the sounds you can get out of this guitar and the fact that the owner kept it all original is just the icing on the cake. Check out those double ringed tuners and volute on the neck -just classic touches like that is really why I love these vintage guitars.
